Step Confidently: Over Pronation Treatment in Delhi & Gurgaon at TheRehabStreet

What do you mean by the term Overpronation?

In context of foot biomechanics, pronation is generally defined as a motion where the foot strikes the ground and the arch of the foot rolls inward slightly, flattens and stretches to absorb shock and distribute pressure.

Overpronation on the other hand, when your foot rolls inward excessively during walking or running. In overpronation, the arch flattens too much, causing the inward rolling motion and potentially leading to pain and discomfort in your feet, ankles, and shins.

Recognizing the Signs of Overpronation

Here are some common signs to watch out for:

  • Uneven Shoe Wear: The inner soles of your shoes wear down faster than the outer soles.

  • Foot, Ankle, or Shin Pain: You might experience pain, especially after physical activity.

  • Flat Feet or Low Arches: Having low arches or noticing a decrease in arch height over time can be an indicator.

  • Knocked Knees: Your knees might appear to bow inward when standing.

  • Painful Gait: You might feel a slight imbalance or instability when walking or running.

Causes of Overpronation

Several factors can contribute to overpronation:

  • Foot Mechanics: Certain foot types, like flat feet, are more prone to overpronation due to a lack of natural arch support.

  • Tight Calf Muscles: Tight calf muscles can pull on the heel bone, affecting ankle alignment and increasing inward rolling.

  • Weak Foot and Ankle Muscles: Weak muscles can't adequately support the arch and stabilize the foot during movement.

  • Improper Footwear: Shoes with inadequate arch support or excessive cushioning can contribute to overpronation.

  • Weight Gain: Excess weight puts additional stress on your feet, potentially leading to overpronation.
